What Technology is Used at The Eye Care Institute?
Our practice is committed to the latest in medical innovation and technology. That is why we use the Alcon Allegretto EX500 excimer laser to perform your LASIK along with the Alcon FS200 femtosecond laser to create your LASIK flap. Our practice also features digital corneal topography measurements to ensure the most accurate and precise measurements prior to your LASIK procedure. We do our best to customize your eyes.
I hear terms like PRK, CK, LASEK, WaveFront, CustomVue, Monovision Blade-Free, Intralase and LADARVISION. Are these different than LASIK?
In our practice, we use the term “LASIK” as a generic term meaning any form of refractive eye care. Upon evaluation of your individual needs, Dr. Meyer or Dr. Pattar will determine exactly which refractive procedure is best for you. We have access to the latest in refractive vision technology, no matter how it is advertised.
How Is LASIK Done?
LASIK is performed on a swivel bed in the LASIK suite at our office on Story Avenue. First, the eye is numbed with a few drops of topical anesthetic. These drops may sting. An eyelid holder is placed between the eyelids to keep them open and prevent you from blinking.
Next an instrument is placed around your eyelids to keep them from moving during the laser procedure.
Then, Dr. Meyer or Dr. Pattar will use the Alcon FS200 Femtosecond Laser to create a flap. The flap is lifted and folded back. As the flap moves, you experience a slight period of blurry vision. The Alcon EX500 excimer laser is preprogrammed to your prescription and is then centered above the eye.
Dr. Meyer or Dr. Pattar guides the laser to sculpt the exposed corneal tissue. After the laser has completed reshaping the cornea, he places the flap back into position and smooths the edges. The flap adheres on its own in a matter of seconds.

The WaveLight® Analyzer is a diagnostic device to support the decision-making process for personalized patient treatment paths. By calculating the individual wavefront aberrations of the eye, this device delivers measurement data for the preparation of Wavefront-Guided treatments.
The successful treatment of vision disorders requires accurate diagnosis. Developing a diagnostic device that is aligned with our laser systems was a logical step in order to assure a treatment that is right for the patient–from the beginning of diagnostics, through surgery and post-operative evaluation.
